어떤 우주의 모습을 비춰줄까요?
우선, 사진부터 감상하시죠! 이 멋진 사진의 제목은 The Butterfly Nebula from Hubble 입니다.
NASA에서 공식적으로 제공한 설명을 보시죠. Stars can make beautiful patterns as they age -- sometimes similar to flowers or insects. NGC 6302, the Butterfly Nebula, is a notable example. Though its gaseous wingspan covers over 3 light-years and its estimated surface temperature exceeds 200,000 degrees C, the aging central star of NGC 6302, the featured planetary nebula, has become exceptionally hot, shining brightly in visible and ultraviolet light but hidden from direct view by a dense torus of dust. This sharp close-up was recorded by the Hubble Space Telescope and is processed here to show off remarkable details of the complex planetary nebula, highlighting in particular light emitted by oxygen (shown as blue), hydrogen (green), and nitrogen (red). NGC 6302 lies about 3,500 light-years away in the arachnologically correct constellation of the Scorpion (Scorpius). Planetary nebulas evolve from outer atmospheres of stars like our Sun, but usually fade in about 20,000 years. 별들은 나이가 들면서 아름다운 패턴을 만들 수 있습니다. 때로는 꽃이나 곤충과 비슷합니다. 나비 성운 NGC 6302가 대표적인 예이다. 가스 날개 폭은 3광년이 넘고 추정 표면 온도는 200,000도를 넘지만, NGC 6302의 나이든 중심별은 유난히 뜨거워져 가시광선과 자외선에서는 밝게 빛나지만 먼지의 밀집된 소용돌이에 의해 직접적인 시야에서 가려진다. 이 날카로운 클로즈업은 허블 우주 망원경에 의해 기록되었고, 여기서 산소(파란색), 수소(녹색), 질소(빨간색)가 방출하는 빛을 강조하는 복잡한 행성상 성운의 놀라운 세부 사항을 보여주기 위해 처리되었다. NGC 6302는 전갈자리 방향으로 지구로부터 약 3,500광년 떨어져 있다. 행성상성운은 우리 태양과 같은 별들의 외부 대기에서 진화하지만, 보통 약 20,000년 후에 희미해진다. 우주의 다양한 모습은 아름답습니다~
